I haven't written much, not as much as I would have liked. 2005, a year of personal tragedy for those closest to me. My personal secretary, you could even call her my alter-ego, lost her mother and one of her brothers this year. So, I've had to do a lot of my own typing. Silly activity, really. It's much easier the way I usually do it, speak into a microphone, and miraculously everything comes out in neat little letters, on neat little pages. Ah well, progress means that you yourself have to get close to the machine at some point, I suppose.

I think you'll agree that 2005 had more than its share of natural catastrophes. I sense that 2006 will bring us more of the same. Most human settlements are near some natural hotspot, just waiting to be disasterized. Below sea-level, in a flood plain, on the slopes of a seemingly dormant volcano, yeesh, are we lookin' for it, or what!

Nevertheless, since this is a Tarot card site, mostly, here is one card drawn with the intent of summing up what 2006 will be like for, let's say North America. That should cover it:

And the lucky card is......<drumroll> The Two of Cups!

I must say I am surprised. I never expected a card outlining such a promise of harmony and understanding. Passion and spirituality working together, forging bonds of respect, showing the net advantages of chaste conduct. Together there is the possibility of forging a ladder to help us all ascend to a higher level of understanding. Clear skies, fruitful land, well-tended cities. Well well well.

I've been a broad....

Dear Children,

I'm back from a long voyage, paying a visit to some long-lost relatives in Davy Jones' Locker. Homer was right, sometimes the sea is as dark as wine.

While the waves were calm, storms were raging across the land of E Pluribus Unum! Now where are those ruby slippers when you need them, just to get back to a semblance of normalcy. So I said to myself:

Ask the cards already!

I mean, isn't that what I'm here for?...

"Can a psychic win the lottery by the use of his or her gifts?"

Short Answer: Yes
Long Answer:

The possibility is definitely there.
One must keep focused on the goal, leave all worries and distractions aside.
One must thoroughly control one's passions and have inner calm.
One must be free of attachments and desires.
A strong inner resolve is necessary.

Anxieties from the past can interfere, as can a fear of the future with all the uncertainty it holds.
Such an event is thoroughly transforming, the old life is left behind.
There could be a serious price to pay: the loss of control over one's life is a distinct possibility.
Above all, one must be ready to face the unknown, possibly Death itself.

And finally, think twice about this, you might not like the results at all.

Well! Isn't that encouraging, sort of.

Cards:
Death, 5 cups, 9 pentacles r,
Strength,7 pentacles,king wands r
Method:Jacobson yes/no.

Winning The Lottery: softly, softly

Reporter: "What would you do if you found a million dollars?"
Yogi Berra: "I'd find the fellow who lost it, and, if he was poor, I'd return it."

I've been doing some research on psychics and their luck at winning the lottery. It would appear that such luck is conspicuous by its absence. Why has a psychic never won the lottery? Sceptics will tell you it's because there is no such thing as a psychic.

Well, have they ever got it wrong. And to all you budding psychics out there who are just burning with desire to shut the sceptics up once and for all by winning the lottery and then bragging about it, take the advice of Auntie Zam :

If you're making a living as a psychic, when you win that jackpot (by the questionable use of your gift or not, but let's leave ethics out of this for now), for heaven's sake, retire from the business and get as far away from your telephone as your newly-minted money can take you!

Leave those losers behind! You know, the poor sods who are relying solely on that winning ticket to turn their lives around. The ones who think that winning the lottery is the only answer to their problems: it will make them stop gambling, cure their drug addiction, stiffen the right appendages, improve their golf score (actually, money will undoubtedly improve their score by ruining everyone else's). The ones who think that money is real, real, really the answer!

Alas, money by its very nature always attracts problems, it can't help itself. Money is a voracious parasitic life-form, it will consume you, and it will excrete problems. Little rabbit-pellets of problems, all over the living-room rug of your life.

There are some lotteries you really don't want to win, as Shirley Jackson once pointed out. Winning is not all it's cracked up to be. Be wary of suddenly becoming the centre of attention...

Then there's the other Shirley and her plight in "What a Way to Go" (1964). Chasing money can lead to a premature end... and as we all know, you can't take it with you.

And, my dear budding psychic, if you know what's good for you, never start your career by handing out lotto combinations, not even to your family. Because when you finally win, as you will, being psychic and all, I guarantee you that those dear loved ones will be furious; they'll right away think that you kept the winning numbers for yourself. Does that sound cynical? I've put it right-side up for the time-being. Since I use the Rider-Waite deck for my daily work, this means that a fat, happy businessman is keeping me company, but he's not offering me any of his wine, I see. Well in that case, I won't offer him any gin. Besides, his hands are busy secretly counting out his profits. I suppose he's never heard the expression "don't count your chickens..."

Let's turn him over to see what he says. "See, my hat's still on, woman! It will take more than that to rattle me!" How right he is. I can see that underneath that fatuous exterior, he's known hardship and is very resourceful. Good. That gives me confidence in his true abilities. He's not a faker.

I much prefer this card when it's reversed, it becomes more down-to-earth. Otherwise I feel that it represents an uncomfortable degree of self-satisfaction. Too much plenitude on an emotional, intuitive level leads to mistakes; bad judgment. When reversed, it means we've reigned ourselves in just short of ultimate success so as to keep from going over the edge. A smidgeon of humility.

So what does that have to do with today? I wonder. Can you figure it out?

Today's card is.... the Five of Cups

Oy, what did we do to deserve such sadness? Look at all we've lost, who cares if the future is still full of promise, let's not forget what's been spilled, spoiled, splattered....

Well, that's enough. There is a bigger world out there than our own particular immediate sadness. Do you remember the ice cream cone you dropped when you were a wee child of six? Well, do you? Time changes everything, or so it seems. The heartbreaking event we live through is one small particle in a whole current of events. Eventually we lift our heads to see what's going on around us, and we notice that the stream is still rushing by, perhaps fuller than ever. We realize that what was spilled could very well have been poisonous. We still have things to try, bridges to cross, castles to explore, life to taste and experience.

That's not to say we deny our current situation of sadness and loss. As a way of establishing balance on the inside, it's important to remember that this is but one isolated moment that will invevitably change. Nature empties what is full and fills what is empty, in other words, "this too shall pass."

A Tarot course

Here is a good Tarot course:

Learning the Tarot

The author, Joan Bunning, offers up much information to not only get you started, she'll keep you going!

Kudos to Joan.

I have arrived

I have heeded the call of the Ancient ones to pipe my reedy voice into the Void, to translate for human consumption the true banquet of knowledge proffered up for our delectation, those of us with the gift...

What will I do with all this space, and so little time?
